This death and dying retreat is an essential meditative instruction for attaining both Awakening as well as to discover how to consciously manifest future lives instead of having the process powerlessly forced upon you by previous causes and conditions.
Retreat Theme and Prerequisites
Lama Pemba will primarily draw from a commonly utilized classic 17th Buddhist yogic text on the dying process, although we will also discuss a wide range of other traditions and beliefs to explore the stages we all go through when we die, These are also the same stages we experience in life when we go to sleep, and enter into deep meditative and hypnotic states.
The stages will be described so vividly that the meditator will practice the process of traveling deeper into the mind at death on the ultimate journey of transformation. In this way, you will be instructed in how to prepare for that time and, in doing so, how to enrich our time on earth, die without fear or anxiety, and influence the stage between this life and the next so that we may gain the best possible incarnation. As always, the ultimate goal is to advance along the Path to Enlightenment.
The retreat will be taught by Lama Pemba, who is well known for his compassionate, wise and impactful teaching style.
In this weekend retreat, offered online on zoom, Lama Pemba will discuss teachings on the six bardo states, and further share a discussion on teachings of tsalung/trulkhor or winds and channels. Tsalung method is one of the most important practices for achieving a healthy body and peaceful mind. It is a special method for purification and liberation of the ordinary body and mind into the enlightened body and mind.
In Tibetan Yoga or Trulkhor there are controlled jumps and falls ('bebs) for opening the body's subtle channels (rtsa) so that vital energies (rlung) move coordinated and harmoniously through the subtle channels in order to promote higher states of awareness.
Enrollment in this retreat is open to all. A background in fundamental Buddhist teachings is helpful.

About The Teacher
Lama Pemba spent the earlier part of his life in various communities around Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Lama Pemba developed a practice in the tradition of Zen Buddhism in 1999 while studying at the University of Art and Design in Kyoto Japan. During this period of his life, he co-founded a very successful garden design business in the Roaring Fork Valley. He continued his studies and was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism in 2001 thru Summit Dharma Center.
He finds the practice of mindfully centered awareness to be an amazing counter point to his former mode of being. As a gentle giant, Phillip glows with love and kindness and enjoys bringing joy to others as he is able. He recognizes the blessings of his life and his primary concern is to be of assistance to others.
His dedication has led him to do pilgrimages to the holy sites of Tibet, Bhutan, India and Thailand. He also completed several 10 day Vipasanna retreats and 30 day silent retreats before spending some 3 years primarily focused on deep retreat in Thailand and the Himalaya region. He owns Escape Garden Design Company in Aspen, Colorado.
Lama Pemba enjoys finding ways to apply the Buddha's teachings to everyday life. He has been married to his wife, Jill for over 40 years and has children and grandchildren; lovingly integrating his spiritual life with a householder's responsibilities. Phillip is known and well-received for his heartfelt presence and clear Dharma teaching, as well as a profound dedication to his practice.
